    Angry! Angry! Angry!

Well, 30 mins ago, I came away from the first of a 2-part course on diabetes education. I didn't go out of some masochistic mechanism but because I was referred by my doctor and DN. Blimey ... what a travesty.

Over three hours I was encouraged to eat plenty of rice, potato and pasta, told bread was good for me and that there was no need to avoid sugary beans or sweet and sour sauces. Moreover, occasional sweets biscuits are fine, but fats and sweeteners should be avoided (as the latter give you diarrhoea). Oh, and there is absolutely no need to use a BG monitor unless I am taking insulin.

Tragically, the other ten diabetics in the room were lapping it up. Many of the questions included things like "can I still have biscuits/ Mars bars/ milk chocolate etc". In response, the dietician trawled out suggestions of eating healthy and everything in moderation. So, go for it guys and chomp on your rich tea and ginger nuts!!!!

If I was to follow that advice, my HbA1c in three months would be in the 80s (at least) and I would be on a sure track to be taking a wheelbarrow full of meds!

This morning as a result of a largely LCHF diet my fasting BG was 5.2. On top of that none of my test results have been over 7.3 for the last week and most average around 5.5. So, who is right? Is it me with the hard data to support continuation of my diet/ lifestyle, or a bunch of ill-advised, dogmatic HCPs who appear unable to see the wood from the trees?

The bottom line is tragic - their misinformation is destroying the future lives of help-seeking diabetics. Those professionals should feel ashamed!

So who is this clueless Eddie character then, could it be Turboturd? Strange to see the Usual Suspects not popping out of the woodwork with their negativity, only one or two examples of lack of Clue.

ISTR reading that when Trudi Deakin changed the Xpert course to be low carb, a number of PCTs stopped using it.

Don't know much about Eddie apart from as one poster commented he's on insulin which explains a lot, as for the usual suspects most have given up the ghost suspect they were overwhelmed by all the good low carb news that abounds these days, and as fast as the cherub banned low carbers new one were signing up daily

I wonder why Chris Cashin stopped posting, maybe her colleagues thought she was bringing dieticians into disrepute. Nevertheless good to see common sense prevail after all these years. No I don't think I'll bother to participate again.

    .

She did reappear a couple of years ago but only to delete some of her posts that we were highlighting on the blog, likewise on the dietetics forum were she removed her post stating that potatoes should be a staple for T2's.

Still as idiotic on twitter though citing anecdotal evidence about her patients, this is the Ally who dismissed our own N = 1 anecdotal evidence

Interestingly the ADA Forum was one which was NOT highly censored, and most people there didn't eat the ADA diet. I stopped that one eventually as it was taking me more than a day to read a day's worth of posts. Quite scary how fast the newbies were turning up, but at least thanks to Alan Shanley and a few others they were mainly getting good advice.
