One year NO BEER! Empty One year NO BEER!

Post by Eddie Fri Jan 29 2016, 16:49

This came in via email to our blog this afternoon.

"ONE YEAR NO BEER (OYNB) CALLS FOR RECRUITS FOR THE EVEREST OF SOCIAL CHALLENGES

A growing community is turning its back on alcohol, but will need support from their peers, organisations, businesses and the government to succeed. The Professional Football Association (PFA) is first to endorse the OYNB challenge

Monday 1st February 2016. As millions of people in the UK celebrate their achievements completing Dry January, social change is palpable in the air.

One Year No Beer (OYNB) launches today, a 30, 90 or 365-day challenge that supports us all to manage a better relationship with booze, and encourages us to focus on strengthening the mind and body. It supports a growing community who are shunning alcohol for good as they have realised its corrosive influence on their lives.

Giving up booze in today’s alcohol-dependent society is hard. OYNB provides an online community, safe from the ‘just one more drink’ pressure that society considers acceptable today.  Members receive support and advice to deal with social pressure from real people who have been through it. The co-founders of OYNB have also written a book about their experiences of living without booze which is free to download for registered members.

Daily updates from the OYNB team and its members, regular face-to-face meet-ups, exercise techniques and ideas, are all proving to be the recipe for success for its members.

Emily Goldsworthy (27) from Glasgow, OYNB member said:

“I have been trailing this service for 90 days before it officially launched, and what an AMAZING 90 days. I was at a real low point in my life, fuzzy-headed, tired and unmotivated. Today I am stronger than ever, I recently began a brand new job, which I truly believe I would not of achieved without the help and support from OYNB and its members.

I have decided to take on the full 365 days. It is onwards and upwards for me”.

The Professional Football Association (PFA) is the first professional organisation to endorse OYNB, as it looks to encourage people to give up alcohol for 30, 90 or 365 days. PFA Director of Corporate Social Responsibility John Hudson said:

“The PFA extend its support to this excellent challenge which I'm sure will have a positive, healthy and in many cases long-term impact on those who take part.”

Andy Ramage, Co-Founder of OYNB and city worker said:

“Everyone loves a challenge and OneYearNoBeer is exactly that. No stigma, no labels. If someone can do 30 days, they can do 90 and at this point they can easily take on the year. These challenges will change their relationship with alcohol forever”.

Membership to OYNB is free. however some services from its affiliate partner organisations, carefully sourced by the OYNB team to help people succeed, the service include life coaching, mindfulness and a complete medical (MOT) assessment*.

    About OYNB

OneYearNoBeer (OYNB) is the ultimate booze-free health challenge. It’s a 30, 90 or 365-day health-focused challenge that will encourage us all to manage a better relationship with alcohol. Membership to OYNB is free, and encourages its members to focus on strengthening the mind and body.

City workers Ruari Fairbairns and Andy Ramage founded OYNB. Chatting in the pub (where else?), it dawned on the pair that all aspects of life had become deeply entrenched in alcohol. As they began their alcohol-free challenge and started talking to friends and family, they realized they were not alone. In fact hundreds just like them wanted to stop drinking but needed support that was not forthcoming.

What was a sober chat in a pub turned into a movement and in only two weeks they have over 5,000 twitter followers and have just passed 2,000 subscribers to their challenge.

    About the Professional Football’s Association

The Professional Footballers’ Association is the world’s longest established professional sportsperson’s union. The aims of the PFA are to protect, improve and negotiate the conditions, rights and status of all professional players by collective bargaining agreements. The PFA has been successful throughout its history in the challenges it has faced due to the strength of support from its members."

Jeez, are they trying to wind me up? How can a sane man in control of the facts go 2 hours without a drink, we need to be told. Do you know I was out shopping with Jan yesterday afternoon, and came over feeling very strange, then it dawned on me, I was beginning to sober up. affraid Good job I never go more than ten minutes from a drinker these days. vodkamachine

Seeing as your teetotal don't think that will be a hardship for you Andy  Laughing

As for me I won't be joining and due the the closure of many pubs in the last few years I'm thinking of forming a "save your local pub drink beer" beer movement instead  Cool

I've heard of a new one Andy, much easier. It's called NCFAY ( No Cabbage For A Year ). I chose this one instead of the beer one. Fancy it ?
