A gastroenterologist in Lancs has told G.P.s not do blood tests for g.g.t.!
I find this surprising since I have N.A.F.L.D.
    Hope it doesn't happen here.

They no longer do GGT as part of an LFT panel where I live either although when they did it could become somewhat annoying as my GGT was always elevated whether I drank or not but GP's could not see past alcohol consumption as the cause of it despite there being many other causes of this enzyme being elevated.

    Best regards

That made me have a proper look at the print out from my last set of blood tests and there is no GGT result on mine, it was on my 2014 print out though, looks like it could be another cost saving measure which with the prevalence of NAFLD in diabetics is deplorable.  Sad

I don't even get a full lipid panel now just Total and HDL

I understand GGT is not an expensive blood test. It was an hospital consultant who told GPs not to test.
They can do other liver blood tests as usual.

Some years ago in the Carlisle area they were dissuading GPS from doing PSA tests.
I think they saw men with cancer of the prostate as a black hole for money. I hope they are not going to treat diabetics with nafld the same way!

Sadly given the constraints on the NHS budget nothing would surprise me, as T2 diabetics we are viewed as a drain on resources due to a self inflicted disease. The very fact a LC diet could alleviate the high costs of drugs and the treatment of complications is overlooked by the focus on the low fat high carb diet that is the eatwell plate

Putting my most cynical head on, maybe they accept that NAFLD is going to increase, just like everyone eating a low fat diet will have high trigs, so it's no longer worth testing for things considered "normal". Many doctors and especially nurses, including one at Joslin, now claim that high postprandial BG is "normal". Er no, it may be "common" but it isn't "normal".

Strange how the same people see obesity as common but never claim it is "normal" even when they are fat themselves.
