The forum of flogs idea of good diabetes control.

After much noise on the internet re. the flogs new low carb diet plan, universally accepted as an information gathering exercise of members private info (to be sold to big pharma?*) Or plain and simple jumping on the low carb bandwagon, now that low carb is going mainstream, I spotted this over there last night.

Not my idea of safe diabetes control, but does fit in with the woeful information cut and pasted ad infinitum to the forum newbies. If the flog is genuinely interested in low carb and helping diabetics to a safe place, why is dangerous information still being posted with their name and logo proudly displayed.

    *  "One of the ways the website makes money is by charging to put organisations such as pharmaceutical companies doing medical trials in touch with forum members who have diabetes."

From the Coventry Telegraph here. A "Ratner Moment" if ever I saw one.

Type two diabetic-low carb diet (50 carbs per day) and two 500mg Metformin pills per day. Apart from diagnosis HbA1c almost 12-all HbA1c results none diabetic. For over eight years my diabetes medication has not changed. My weight has remained stable, I have suffered no ill effects from my diet whatsoever. Every blood test has proved, I took the right road to my diabetic salvation. For almost seven years, I have asked medical professionals and naysayers, how do I maintain non diabetic BG levels on two Metformin other than low carb ? The silence has been deafening !

    EPIC-Norfolk

there's also a five year followup

    New Zealand study

both show a linear correlation between HbA1c and cardiovascular risk STARTING at a truly normal A1c which is below 5.

Then there are numerous other studies showing a correlation between A1c and microvascular risk, and postprandial glucose and macrovascular risk.

Obviously it doesn't matter if diabetics die prematurely from CVD as long as they BUY STUFF.
