Stress or Faulty Meter Empty Stress or Faulty Meter

Post by Mud Island Dweller Mon Sep 01 2014, 20:11

Lunch today l had to have early due to lack of vn staff and times people finished so l ate at 12:30 not happy but no choice.

I took my bloods and fell off the chair 6.1 so ate my salad and mixed berries and then proceeded to drink around 600ml water over the 2 hr period.

Come second set the meter wouldn't work gave error code...wonderful now was the first reading wrong?
Got the back up meter out the car and that told me l was 6.1 2hrs after a meal identical to pre lunch

I didn't bother on the initial retest as l figured well l had not had much fluid to drink the place is very hot and non stop very very short staffed on nurses in all seriousness could do with min of  3 more so it is stressful especially being new there and hitting the ground running... started locum work there last week.
Breakfast today l had 2 scrambled eggs and 2 black coffee from 7am till 12:30

Tonight the meter works fine well l am a more regular amount 4.6

So anyone any guesses was it stress and dehydration or a faulty meter?  Neutral

I have seen it written that stress levels can have an adverse effect on blood sugar numbers ....hope your feet / heel do heal soon.

I'd say stress too. Factor in the 15-20% correction factor and probably not too far off anyway ? What level would you expect ?

That's tight control, well done. Referring back to your 6.1, allowing for 20% tolerance, this could have been anywhere from 4.9-7.3 ! That's at the extreme ends but highlights why not to worry about occasional dodgy readings.
