He very comprehensively sets out the arguments for LCHF that we are all so aware of. I just don't understand why health bodies refuse to see the logic. It's absolute denial of reality clown confused

    Another excellent article Indy!

The analogy of the house being flooded with water and the body being flooded with sugar is so easy to understand. In fact it's so very easy to understand I really don't know how the health authorities/big pharma are managing to get away with pulling the wool over everyone's eyes. Obviously the first thing you do in either scenario is turn the bl**dy tap off!

Why pour so much money into curative medicine when the prevention is so very easy????!!! It's a crazy world we live in. Mad

These are some of the reasons. Almost every outfit advising on nutrition and health are funded by junk food, big pharma or both. Strip out all the highly processed, high sugar, high starch, high carb foods from the average supermarket, and you are left with foods that most low carbers eat. Fresh whole foods have a short shelf life, are low profit margin and cannot provide the £billions spent on advertising junk foods. The junk food makes people ill over time, and along comes big pharma with the answer, allegedly. Trouble is most drugs don't work on most people, that is not a bloggers opinion or some bloke with a conspiracy theory. The man who said most drugs don't work was  Allen Roses, worldwide vice-president of genetics at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as reported here. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/glaxo-chief-our-drugs-do-not-work-on-most-patients-575942.html

Eddie - Well that explains why the authorities push the eat your carbs/take the drugs line. That's just one half of the equation though. The other half is why do people blindly (unfortunate word perhaps) follow the official advice? Why do people always believe what they are told? Because they don't know any other way? Because it's always worked for them before?

Maybe I am fortunate that my GP's advice rarely worked for me, so I started questioning it many years ago.

To cap it all, recent research has indicated that the standard treatments are ineffective. In a study using information from databases in Saskatchewan on 12,272 patients with T2D, it was found that the all-cause mortality rate increased with exposure to insulin (3). Table 1 shows that those with the highest exposure had almost 3 times the death rate of those who were not treated with insulin. A similar trend was found for death due to cardiovascular diseases.

    http://vernerwheelock.com/?p=796

This is the conclusion of the study Verner cited

Conclusions: We observed a significant and graded association between mortality risk and insulin exposure level in an inception cohort of patients with type 2 diabetes that persisted despite multivariable adjustment.
    http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1463-1326.2009.01125.x/abstract?deniedAccessCustomisedMessage=&userIsAuthenticated=false

That is yet another study showing the risks of insulin use in T2 diabetics, the higher the insulin dose the greater the risk. As we know to well the dietary guidelines encourage a high carb low fat diet which will of course will lead to higher insulin usage.

But hey Giverny said on DCUK covering the same topic: "Thread closed. This isn't the place to be scaremongering and dishing out potentially dangerous information."

    http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/recent-insulin-study.50729/page-7

That said Giverny is a non diabetic with no knowledge of diabetes so the conspiracy theorist in me wonders who put her up to it. Question

You may note on the thread the amount of T1s having their say on a T2 subject, knowing that phoenix is long a long term anti low carber and is known to support Hope Warshaws 45% to 65% carb diet for T2s could it be her Question I think not the most likely and one who has a history of asking for threads to be locked is noblehead.

On the other hand the cherub said and I quote: "It seems to me that everyone here is trying to say that they know more about this than the next poster and it really doesn't help anyone other than to scare Type2s who are being prescribed insulin."
