SOME breakfast cereals, including children’s favourites, are stacked with up to 40 per cent sugar.

The products are packed with as much as three teaspoons of the sweet stuff per recommended serve, a review has found.

The Choice investigation has exposed the bitter truth about the contents of our morning kick-starter, branding some products “nutritional nightmares”.

The consumer body’s study of 204 ready-to-eat cereals described only about one in four as top health choices.

Coles Honey Crunch with Nuts had the biggest sugar content, followed by Kellogg’s Frosties. They each contained 100 times more sugar than the lowest amounts on the market, Choice said.

While salt levels were generally dropping, those still packing a punch included Black & Gold Corn Flakes and Kellogg’s Crispix.

These had 70 times more sodium per 100g than low-salt option Uncle Tobys Shredded Wheat.

And the Gov't wonders why there is a rise in diabetes and obesity. These foods are clearly aimed at kids, not a great start in life !

That's exactly what I said Mo.
You only have to look at the bright coloured boxes on the shelves - a child's eye is automatically drawn toward them. Perhaps the government should bring in legislation to have them wrapped in plain boxes ... be interesting to see the affect on sales.
    Just a thought!

    All the best Jan
